CHINCHOW-TAONANFU Railway.

Peking, September 29, 1908.

With reference to my despatch No. 359 of the 6th ultimo, I have the honour to report that the firm of Pauling and Co. have received authority to make a detailed survey of the above-mentioned line, and have obtained a promise to the effect that the contract for the building of the railway will be given to them when the survey has been satisfactorily accomplished.

This undertaking has been embodied in a written Agreement signed by Lord ffrench, the agent of the firm, and his Excellency Tong Shao-yi.
